Restoration services in the City of St. Louis

St. Louis is an independent city, separate from St. Louis County, and it is reached from St. Charles by I-70 or I-64 through St. Louis County. We take water, fire, smoke and storm damage calls here, along with sewage cleanup and commercial restoration. Our emergency line is open 24/7.

The city’s housing is some of the oldest in the metro area, and that shapes the work. Here is what tends to matter and how we approach it.

Older brick buildings

Brick two-family flats, rowhouses, bungalows and apartment buildings fill much of the city. They are solid, but they carry plaster walls, wood floors, old plumbing and roofs with flat or low-slope sections that hold water. A slow roof leak can soak a ceiling and run down interior walls before a stain appears. When a pipe breaks upstairs in a multi-family building, the water usually reaches the units below.

Those buildings are also where lead paint turns up. If the building went up before 1978, mention it when you call. We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, so we plan around painted trim, doors and plaster, containing dust and cleaning carefully when walls or ceilings have to come out. Keep children and anyone pregnant away from areas being cut or scraped.

Sewer backups in aging lines

Many city properties still depend on old clay or cast iron sewer laterals. Roots, cracks and settling can slow a line until a heavy rain pushes sewage back up through a basement floor drain. Cleanup is not a mop-and-bucket job. Contaminated water spreads into porous materials, and carpet, drywall and stored boxes often have to go. Our sewage backup service covers the sanitizing and removal, and we can tell you what to photograph for your insurer.

Lofts, condos and downtown buildings

Converted warehouses, mid-rise condos and mixed-use buildings bring their own complications. A leak in one unit touches floors, ceilings and shared walls, and the people involved may include an owner, a tenant, an association and a building insurer. Tell us who manages the building and which units are affected. We document each space separately and give you notes to pass along. The insurance page explains how we work with insurers.

Offices, restaurants, shops and clinics are part of the same picture. A kitchen fire or a sprinkler discharge in a commercial space needs both a cleanup plan and attention to the neighbors.

After a fire

Smoke travels through plaster cavities, floor joists and shared walls. In a dense city block, a fire next door can leave soot and odor in your home even if flames never reached it. We clean surfaces and treat odor, and our contents cleaning work covers clothing, furniture and keepsakes that can be saved. See the fire and smoke page for details.

Questions from St. Louis City property owners

Is the City of St. Louis the same as St. Louis County?

No. The city is independent and separate from the county, which surrounds it on the land side. We serve both, and we have a separate page for the county.

My brick two-family has a sewage backup in the basement. What should I do?

Stay out of the water, keep children and pets away, and call us. Sewage is a health hazard, and older clay laterals are a common cause, so we also suggest having the line inspected once the cleanup is done.

My building is a loft or condo. Who do I contact first?

Tell your property manager or association, then call us. Water in one unit often travels to others, and the building and unit owners may each have separate insurance.

Do you take lead paint into account in older city homes?

Yes. We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, and when work could disturb painted surfaces in a pre-1978 building we plan containment and cleanup around that.
